March Madness Picks

Auto Date Thursday, March 19th, 2009

Now that the tournament is upon us, time for us to start the chaos. I’ll admit, since I’m not in any pay pools, I’m not as obsessed with my bracket as I have been in the past. I’ll actually be rooting for every underdog. I’d love to see the final four filled with #16 seeds and the world in shambles.

My final four is as follows: Louisville, Missouri, Villanova, and North Carolina. I have Louisville over North Carolina in the Championship.

Not any huge upsets in the first round. My mandatory 12 over 5 pick is Arizona over Utah. Although, to be honest, I’m feeling big things for Western Kentucky over Illinois, but I won’t be changing my bracket this late into the night.

Only team I’m really rooting for is Syracuse, besides that let’s go seeds 8-16!

Stewart Owns Cramer

Auto Date Friday, March 13th, 2009

Ever since Jon Stewart appeared on Crossfire a few years back, I’ve had a great deal of respect for him. He is a hilarious guy but when he takes off his funny hat and fights for the people, he has some of the hard hitting questions that no other media outlet dares to ask.

In his latest cause, he takes on Jim Cramer of MSNBC’s Mad Money and calls him out on shenanigans and shady dealings of the financial industry. Even if you don’t fully understand the crisis, it’s a beautiful encounter of how he nails Cramer over and over.

Using a quote from ProFootballTalk.com:

“Speaking in a voice that at times was passionate and faintly cracking with emotion as he grilled Cramer, Stewart made the typically bombastic financial guru come off as a wiseguy trying to reason with the hitman who had been sent to whack him.

Here is just part of the interview, the rest can be seen on DailyShow.com.

Crisis of Credit

Auto Date Thursday, March 12th, 2009

For those of you who don’t really understand why the economy has gone into the crapper, here’s a little video that explains pretty well part of it. It’s simple to understand and appealing to watch.

T.O.

Buffalo Bills & Terrell Owens?!

Auto Date Saturday, March 7th, 2009

Our take?  At best, an opportunity in Buffalo would be used to help generate interest on the part of other teams.  But if no one else steps up, or if the Bills are willing to pay much more than any other team, T.O. could be getting his wish to play in New York, only not with the team that he originally wanted.

I think if hes willing to sign with us, go for it. What’s the worst that can happen? We miss the playoffs for tenth straight year? He destroys the team? Eh. At least we’ll finally get some SportsCenter time.

Jimmy Fallon

Auto Date Tuesday, March 3rd, 2009

Decided to give the new Late Night with Jimmy Fallon a chance…. mixed reaction so far.

The monologue had the obvious jokes: economy is bad, government does things, random news stories, etc. However the crowd would shout out too often it seemed. Like, don’t they have security? It was almost to the point of disruption.

They then did a skit with the premise of NBC wants them to focus on “target demographics” for the new show. Tonight’s was Blonde Mothers. They showed a short picture montage with a voice over making a few obvious jokes. Not a lot of audible laughs with the crowd.

After that they did probably one of the more stupid things called “Lick it for Ten”. It’s exactly how it sounds. They had three people from the audience come up and lick a lawn mower and a fish bowl. Pretty amateur.

Watching Jimmy’s “interview” with Robert DeNiro right now. So far, DeNiro has said maybe five words. Jimmy needs to CALM DOWN. He’s already told two stories of his life without really learning anything about him. He’s obviously nervous, he is stumbling over his words and stuttering the end of his questions. Also interrupting DeNiro and talking over him.

I can tell DeNiro seems like he’s doing him a favor and is bored of the whole thing. Now Jimmy is doing impression of DeNiro… he wants the focus to be entirely on him. I hope he gets better because so far it’s been a train wreck.
