Obama-mercial

Auto Date Thursday, October 30th, 2008

A few people were asking about the Obama commercial, here it is online. Mostly talking points that you’ve heard before with a bunch of personal stories in between. Well shot and edited, but beyond that nothing ground breaking from what I’ve seen thus far.

Joe the No-Show

Auto Date Thursday, October 30th, 2008

Anderson Cooper reported on an awkward moment at a McCain rally. Apparently, the infamous Joe the Plumber was scheduled to appear at the rally but a communication error between the McCain camp never called to confirm his arrival. Therefore, he wasn’t there.

Joe was reportedly “not happy about it” when hearing McCain called for him and he wasn’t there.

In related news, Joe may start a singing career. God help us.

Phillies Phinally Phin Phe Phorld Pheries

Auto Date Thursday, October 30th, 2008

While I obviously rooted for the Tampa Bay Rays the entire season and postseason, I suppose I can’t be too upset with Philadelphia winning a championship. Being a fan of Buffalo, I can relate heavily to those teams who have long droughts of celebration fueled rioting in random downtown locations. What is it about winning championships that makes all their fans turn into cave men, cheering and thorougly impressed by things like fire and flipping heavy objects? Alas, a topic for another day.

Cole Hamels won the MVP, which puts him in exclusive company with people like Pat Borders, John Wetteland and David Eckstein. Nothing like appearing in less then half of the games and saying you’re the most important. Cheers to him.

With the end of the season, so does my endorsement of the Tampa Bay Rays. It’s been a long, strange trip and I probably still can’t name your full starting lineup…. and I’m okay with that. Because it wasn’t about me getting to know you, or supporting you emotionally, or going out of my way to cheer you on when you needed it most. No. It was about when I was informed you won a game, I could say “Yes… WE won.”

In other news, my loyalty is now up to the highest bidder. Integrity not included.

Obama’s War Against Baseball

Auto Date Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

Barack Obama’s 30-minute advertisement airs tonight across several networks (CBS, NBC, MSNBC, Fox, BET, TV One and Univision) at 8 PM. However, the response from the McCain camp has been curious:

It’s unfortunate that the World Series’ first pitch is being delayed for Obama’s political pitch. Not only is Obama putting politics before principle, he’s putting it before our national pastime,” RNC spokesman Alex Conant said.

FOX announced that they would push back the beginning of the scheduled game to accommodate Obama’s speech. However, due to mother nature hating Bud Selig the previous game has been suspended and then delayed until 8:37 PM tonight anyway. The previous game didn’t even start until past 10 PM on the east coast previously, so what does the late start time really matter?

Really though, with Obama outearning and outspending McCain by ridiculous margins, isn’t this advertisement sort of kicking sand in the face of the beat up kid on the playground? You knocked his teeth out, bloodied his nose, and now you’re going to spend 30 minutes explaining how you kicked his ass. It’ll be interesting to see the ratings and reaction from the public.

McCain Stands Up For Obama

Auto Date Saturday, October 25th, 2008

A lot has been made over the past few weeks about things being said at McCain rallys. Here are a few examples out there of McCain actually defending Obama. A lot of Obama supporters are ripping McCain as an awful human being for his smear tactics when truthfully it’s just the strategy that Republicans have had success with in the past. It’s not his fault as an individual.

So as much as these types of politics suck, don’t think these candidates don’t truly respect one another. I’m convinced they do. It’s just the middle of a competition that both sides want to win and its gotten historically ugly.

Palin: ‘A Diva’ says McCain Aide.

Auto Date Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Well this is fascinating. I guess Palin realizes the ship is going down and wants to save some face for her future career in politics. All of her dirt is out now, what if she remains governor for another term, maybe goes to the Senate. In 2016 she decides to come out and campaign with a full slate of experience. The conservatives would welcome her back and all of her past negatives might be erased. Would be interesting.

Philadelphia Under Water

Auto Date Saturday, October 25th, 2008

I think it’s ridiculous they’re going to try and play this World Series game in this type of weather. If this is supposed to be the championship to determine the best team, why would you make weather a factor? Baseball has gone out of its way to make sure weather does not play a strong role in the outcome of its games so why would one of the most important games of your year be different?

It’s all about the greenbacks. Sponsorship money, television rights, tickets sold, etc. etc. etc. Now they’re going to try and have the first pitch at 10 PM east coast time…. are you KIDDING me? Let’s see how those ratings are for the 7th inning stretch at 1:30 AM.

Let’s Go STATE

Auto Date Saturday, October 25th, 2008

Tonight’s game of #3 Penn State vs #9 Ohio State is the most excited I’ve been for a college football game in a long time. This game is essentially our play-in game to the National Championship Game. No disrespect to the teams we play after tonight (Iowa, Michigan State) but Penn State will be heavily favored in those games, so this is our last true big test.

Terrelle Pryor, the prodigal true freshman, flirted with attending State during recruitment. His father wanted him to go to State, but he decided to go to the Buckeyes instead. Obviously, there is resentment amongst the Nittany Lion faithful for his decision. I hope our defense can pound their face in.

Trent Edwards Leads Bills

Auto Date Monday, October 20th, 2008

Great article over on NFL.com about Trent Edwards and his play being the primary reason for Buffalo’s 5-1 start. I have to agree with them. He’s led us back on three 4th quarter comebacks and we’re, technically, 5-0 when he takes more then 5 snaps this season. Just saying.

Big game next week against Miami. If we can pull this one off it’ll bury the Dolphins four games back, theoretically ending any early season chances they may have had for the division.

TAMPA BAY RAYS

Auto Date Sunday, October 19th, 2008

The endorsement came a long long time ago. Who would’ve thought it would end up in the World Series? I will fully admit it was a complete bandwagon jump in spring training, but its been one hell of a ride so far. Let’s keep it going and beat those Phillies!

Chicago to Open ‘gay-friendly’ high school

Auto Date Monday, October 13th, 2008

I don’t know if this is going to work or not. My guess would be no. It seems like a small level of self inflicted segregation based on lifestyle choice. However, they are saying the new school would be open to non-gay, lesbian, transgender students as well.

Can’t anyone else see the bullying and harassing that the straight kids will ensue? Any type of person or people in the minority will be subject to ridicule and being outsiders to the overall population. Now the straight kids will be ridiculed for their poor fashion sense, taking a member of the opposite sex to a school dance, or their eyebrows not being plucked properly.

All those methods of mockery are very stereotypical and I apologize. At least the school will have a great football team. Those butch lesbians really know how to pass protect.
