Dan Patrick has been a great SportsCenter anchor for a long time. He has left ESPN and is now working for Sports Illustrated and NBC. Seeing him at a desk with Keith Olbermann (who I prefer doing politics now on MSNBC) and Chris Collinsworth (who has always been terrible at everything hes ever done ever) is hairpullingly awful.
They make awkward jokes with one another, giggle like school girls and seem to carry themselves with a sense of self-importance that is usually reserved for pro bowl wide receivers.
The show isn’t brought down entirely by that trio though, they just showed a parody of the Baywatch theme song since Tampa Bay and Green Bay were playing one another. Are they even trying anymore? That’s such an overdone joke it ranks up there with Tom Brady and The Brady Bunch. We get it. The names are the same. Stop treating us like 12 year olds.
I feel for Bob Costas who I think they should cryogenica freeze and thaw him out every two years for the Olympics. Why waste his life for the useless sports in between? I want him hosting the 2080 Summer Olympics when they’re played on the Moon.
Well, predictably, McCain has agreed to show up to the debate tonight. It’ll be interesting to see if the answers stay on the night’s topic, “National Security”, or inevitably sway to the elephant in the room: the economy.
I think if McCain can somehow knock it out of the ballpark tonight or Obama really gaffes it up it could be a gamechanger. Everyone is expecting Obama to do well and McCain is running back to Mississippi with the public pretty much ignoring his big campaign suspension. Obama is starting to pull away to some of the biggest leads of the election season and a huge win tonight could put things beyond reach. A lot of undecideds can make up their minds tonight.
After tonight, there will be probably even more hype over the Biden/Palin debate next week and rightfully so. However tonight will be a great cage match. I’m looking forward to it.
John McCain announced he was “suspending his campaign” yesterday due to the economic crisis the nation is facing. He also said he would not be showing up to the debate tomorrow night. I immediately saw this for what it as, a political stunt.
Ever since the economy started to fall, and the companies began failing, everyone knew this would benefit the Democrats. A strong economy helps the incumbant and the incumbant’s party while crisis and negativity make the people more willing to change. Obama has taken close to the biggest lead he’s had since his party’s nomination because of it and McCain knew that something needed to be done to shake up the campaign.
By saying he is suspending his campaign and cancelling the debate he wants the people to see him as putting “the people first” and a maverick of bipartisianship. The truth of the matter is, he has no more jurisdiction over the proceedings then a no-name first term senator from North Dakota. Electoral-vote.com put it best:
McCain has been in the Senate 25 years. He knows precisely what will happen if he barges into the office of Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT), chairman of the Senate banking committee and announces: “OK, Outta here, I’m taking over now. Dodd’s reaction would not be printable on a family Website like this one and McCain would be instantly and unceremoniously shown the door. There are two people responsible for writing banking bills: Dodd and his House counterpart Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA). If Dodd wants input from the Republicans on this, he will ask the ranking member on his committee, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL). McCain and Obama play no role and McCain knows that very well.
Obama did not take the bait and insists that the debate go on. McCain took a gamble and it did not pay off. He’ll be forced into the arena where, despite the announced topic being about national security, will of course go towards the economy. And the public favors Obama over McCain in economic affairs 53-39.
McCain is trapped. I don’t blame him for trying something, but the fact is that three hours on a stage in Mississippi is not going to make or break the economy. Those who have any real power of making changes will still be working on it while the two potential presidents can discuss what they would do, if given the power, for the next four years. It’s an important debate and could boost Obama to huge margins or bring the race back to the stalemate it has been all season.
Clay Aiken has finally acknowledged the purple elephant in the room. Truthfully, it’s easily the best thing he’s ever done. He’s been mocked and made fun of (mostly by Conan O’Brien’s show in my memories) for being so obviously gay. And now, since he’s come out, the mocking has to stop.
It’s socially allowable to tease and make fun of someone like an undeclared Aiken, however once they admit they’re openly homosexual any further mockery would be seen as biggotry any politically incorrect. He and his new baby can now live in peace.
I know posts have been further and in between recently. My apologies. It’s not because I don’t want to update, I just seem to prioritize my time differently. The leisure time I have is spent either talking with friends, going out with friends or playing video games. Although I’m glad the direction my life has taken since the beginning of the year.
In January I just felt depressed and directionless. Had no creative outlet, had no real motivation and nobody to really do things with. Now I have full days and multiple outlets. I’d love to be able to update That’s Our Nuss more often, or write some parody articles for the blog. I’m also eager to start on a website for an excellent (and hilarious) podcast about Pittsburgh. I also still do weekly videos for my fantasy football league (currently #1 in standings and coaches poll, your Da Freakz!)
In other news, I bought a new car. My 97 dodge neon finally collapsed by needing a new exhaust system. I decided to not pay the $530 repair cost and just get a new one. 2009 Chevy Cobalt seemed good enough. I didn’t really look at any other models. Went to one place, saw three cars and chose this one.
It comes with a free year of XM radio and OnStar. The XM Radio so far has been pretty decent, but I hope I never use the OnStar. Just creepy talking to someone like that.
Still doesnt really feel like “my car” but it’s getting there. Still sometimes forget what I’m looking for in the parking lot.
Other then that, spare time being spent playing Xbox 360 or the new Warhammer Online. Also been pretty active following the election. The debate on Friday should be huge. I’ll hopefully post my opinions on it. Since I influence so many people I’m sure you’re all waiting on the edge of your seats.
Yep3334:Bottom Line is we’re creating a system in witch we’re allowing companies take huge risks, getting hit hard, and then when they stick their hands out for government aid we the people shove 75 billion dollars into a company that obviously doesnt do risk assessment
Yep3334:we’re creating a system in witch this could easily become standard pratice
Yep3334:to hell with the goddamn election.
Yep3334:this is exactly what needs to “change” in washington
Yep3334:the fucking idea that all that really matters is if you get 51% of the vote or not
Yep3334:won’t do a whole lot of good when america a third world power trying to pay back all these loans that we are undoubtedly borrowing from other countries to even finance in the first place
Yep3334:so great, at the end of the day we’re going to run our country in the ground so no one gets upset, so none of our elected officials are forced to make the tough decisions
Yep3334:good points, america..we’re doing just fine, everything great..lets bail out every company ever, give people stimulus checks sponsored by China
I’ll be up in Rochester, NY for the weekend… cousin is getting married. Should be a good time. Bringing the video camera to get some road trip shots. We’ll see if anything is worth showing at the end.
Apparently there’s big news about KFC moving their Original Recipe from a secure vault to bolster security. It seems to be pretty arrogant to go through this trouble to protect a “yellowing piece of paper” about this chicken recipe. You’d think there are enough chefs in the world that, through trial and error, could easily figure out a pretty close substitute. Why go through this trouble?
In fact, I did a Google search and got 92,700 results for different recipes on how to make it. If it’s close enough I think the type of people who go through the trouble of making KFC at home will be satisfied. Hold a press conference and release the recipe, guarantee you don’t make front page in a single newspaper. Maybe CNN.com’s sidebar, but they also have “Polar Bear turns green after swimming” so their standards don’t appear to be sky high.
Sports are amazing/horrible. Where else can a complete stranger’s physical pain cause me such tremendous elation? When I received a text from my top NFL news source about Brady’s torn ACL, it felt like a victory. I felt great. There was no remorse, no thought about the hundreds of hours of surgery, therapy and rehab that he would go through, his family, friends……. nothing….. none crossed my mind. I just immediately thought that I’d much rather have my Buffalo Bills face a Brady-less Patriots and have a better opportunity at a run for the AFC East title.
Injuries are a part of sports. They create storylines, they provide opportunity, the enhance excitement. If nobody was ever hurt, teams wouldn’t care about position depth. If Tiger Woods wasn’t hurt when he beat Rocco Mediate at the US Open it would’ve just been another championship. If Drew Bledsoe wasn’t ever hurt it would’ve never allowed Tom Brady to start. He would’ve remained that 6th round draft pick from Michigan. A decent back up.
So while, yes, it is sad that a human being is suffering tonight. I do not feel guilt for my excitement over the opportunities it creates. Professional Athletes know the risk coming in. That’s why they get paid the big bucks. Now, I don’t think we should ever cheer or root FOR injuries to happen, but if they just so happen to occur you can feel good. Don’t feel bad. However, don’t cheer while they’re on the ground still (Talking to you Philadelphia). Wait and feel good in private. But go about your day in public without remorse.
Just saw a pretty funny commercial with Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld. Up until the final logo shot I thought it would be an American Express ad. Apparently it’s the beginning of a $300 million campaign to boost up Vista in the public view.
I know they also have the advertisements for the “Mojave Project” about tricking people into using Vista on hidden cameras or something.
Truthfully, I have limited experience with Vista. It’s on Nicole’s laptop but I’ve probably spent a combined 20 minutes on that machine ever, plus I’ve never been a laptop fan so I’m biased against it to start. Hopefully, this PC lasts me for another couple years (knock on wood) and by then Vista is worked out or we have a new OS. I don’t want to deal with the nonsense going on now.
I suppose this is how people felt after Windows 3.1 too…
